After more than 10 years of dreaming, planning and anticipating, the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) finally has a place to call home. University of Waterloo and City of Waterloo dignitaries were on hand to break ground on an unseasonably warm and sunny day in March 2007. A few delays and 30 months later, the dignitaries returned, along with our alumni, donors, students and guests to celebrate the grand opening of our new SAF home on an equally fine day in September 2009.
The 50,000 square foot SAF wing, linked to the J.G. Hagey Hall of Humanities, boasts an airy, light-filled environment designed by Robertson Simmons Architects, and offers the first accessible green roof on campus. Every thought has been given to the overall design in maximizing opportunities for connection and relationship building. Our classrooms, meeting spaces, and even our open areas encourage a sense of community while providing a rich learning and research environment. This allows the SAF to leverage its unique ability to integrate its strengths in accounting and finance to benefit students, faculty, alumni and supporters.

"My Waterloo education gave me a strong base from which to build my career. Put simply, I wouldn't be where I am today without it and that's the reason that I continue to support the school." |

A combination of scholarship, professional development, and recognition, the SAF Fellowship Program supports undergraduate students enrolled in the Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) program. Each Fellow is named after an Honouree - an alumnus who exemplifies the spirit of the SAF. The Honouree then becomes the role model for the Fellow, providing guidance and advice to assist the student in realizing his/her professional career goals.
Hector landed his first co-op job as a Financial Analyst for TD Securities through the connection he made with his Fellowship Honouree, Paul Langill (MAcc '91). Since then, Hector has gone on to work for the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) as a Portfolio Administrator, and will be joining Scotia Capital as an Analyst for his next work term. » Read more about Hector here
